Altocumulus August 30,2108 at 7:41pm

This picture was taken for the first could assignment.  The image that I was trying to capture was an altocumulus during sunset.  This was the only photo that I captured during this sun set.  I like the look of it so much I felt like there wasn’t a need to take another one.

This picture was taken in downtown boulder on Pearl street.  It was taken on August 30th at 7:41pm.  I was facing west and pointing my phone camera at about an angle of 45 degrees from horizontal.

The clouds that are in my photo are altocumulus clouds.  You can tell that they are altocumulus clouds because on that day there was a cape of 244, which shows that it was barley unstable.  It also shows that the clouds were at an altitude of 7000 meters.  Because of the height and the unstable atmosphere, it shows that the cloud is an altocumulus.  Below is the skew-t plot that helps show the altitude and the cape.

In order to take this picture, I used my iPhone 7.  The iPhone has a dimension of 3024 pixels by 4032 pixels.  It also has Focal Length of 4mm, F-stop of f/1.8, ISO-32 and exposure time of 1/30.  During post processing I decided to keep the photo pretty original, the only thing that I changed was cropping out a light pole.

This image reveals the beauty of nature.  I really like how the final image came out.  I feel like it shows the cloud off very well.  I really like the color that is seen in this image.  The light pink that comes through really helps make the image pop.  The only thing that I would like to do is to improve the focus overall, I feel like to do this I would have to use a better camera.

I like the touches of pink in this image. What post-processing did you do? Maybe adjust the colors more to increase contrast.

The pink really pops! Enjoy how its a direct look up of the clouds really adds focus to the clouds.

Looks a little grainy and it makes it obvious that it’s a phone photo but it has some color to it which still makes it nice to view.

I like the dark cloud in the middle surrounded by light blue and pink colors. Cool shot.

  • I like the straight up view and the subtle colors. it allows for a focus on the clouds rather than on vibrant colors.

I love the framming of the image making audience focus on the clouds. If Skew-T can be attached, it will be better

I really like how you focused right on the clouds are there are no other distractions like trees or what not. Great colors too!

I like how you didn’t edit the picture much and showed the raw beauty of the sunset over the clouds, love the pink accents on the edge of the clouds! Some very nice altocumulus clouds

I think you did a great Job with having the blue background and the pink looking clouds.

Great colors in this image. The angle is a little disorienting without a horizon to ground you but that is a pretty cool effect as well.

Really nice pastel colors, and the brighter section in the bottom right corner is cool. It would look nice as a whole gradient, but that would require a lot of editing.

This is a beautiful picture. It is amazing to see how the light is pushing off of the clouds. And it has a multitude of colors.

I like the colors and the deep shadows cast on the underside of the cloud. Good cropping as well.

Nice mix of red and blue colors, like the angle of the picture from directly below. Seems like an evening picture.

The black is very interesting in the clouds. The white in the cloud is the least dominate color in the image which is very different from what the audience is used to when viewing clouds

Nice image! (Upload your Skew-T!) I like the color contrast between the pink and blue of the clouds, and I think the clarity of the detail on the clouds is very nice.

This image almost looks like a painting, it looks really cool! The edges of the clouds seem to fade into the air, making it look very interesting. Great job with this image.

  • I love that the colors within this image give the clouds depth. You can tell where the cloud is closest to the camera due to the bright pink colors and where the cloud is farther away due to the darker colors. Nice image!
