Art: Simple, however a tad bit more smoke may have had a louder feel. The dark background is enough to make the smoke stand out.
Flow: I like the flow because it has very particular paths the smoke takes, almost like roads.
Technique: Fine technique, and enough to focus on the thick smoke portions.

Love the smoke and the simple aesthetic. Nice focus too. A little more smoke would make the image pop a little more but overall nice job.

  • Simple and effective. The image demonstrates the flow phenomena perfectly. More lighting could help bring out the smoke.

Nice flow of incense! It’s hard to get feint smoke photos without it being grainy huh? I like how you can see the transition from laminar to turbulent plumes.

I like the shape of the smoke and you can see the it flows into the different regions. It is really great you put into grayscale image, highlights the flow. The light could be a little stronger, or increase shuttle time etc. I like the contrast between black background and white smoke.

The aesthetic of this image is very successful. I think the flow could be better visualized with more smoke but the single flow is also beautiful and seems to be the aesthetic you were going for.

The bright point in the center does a good job of giving the image focus, and the simplicity is nice. A lower ISO, or maybe thicker smoke would help fill the image out more.

The smoke in the image has a very soft texture. The flow looks very interesting and clearly depicts something burning below. Were there any other zoom settings you played with or was it a one and done shot?

I think that the erratic nature of the smoke is very cool and interesting. The flow is very cool and the gray scale of the image is really interesting. I think that overall the picture is very well done.

Flow: the flow is good, clearly illustrated
Technique: focus should be improved, framing and cropping are good

The intent of this picture was realize beautifully. However is this flow controllable on larger scale? The focus was pretty good consider the low amount of smoke.

I like the visualization of something so simplistic. Having it in black and white makes it less distracting than if there were other colors throughout. Maybe a little more contrast would improve the image.

-The colors are all B&W and it paints an extremely nice image, despite the simple nature.
-Flow is illustrated with no distractions, which is nice.
-The image is a little grainy.

I like the way you framed the bright point of the smoke and the transition to turbulent flow. I wonder if the lighter corner was intentional or if you attempted to light a background in an odd way.

Elegant and minimalist, great use of greyscale to reduce distraction. Image is very grainy, could consider changing lighting and ISO to compensate, could also use a slight increase in contrast to better differentiate between smoke and background.

I can clearly see how the went from laminar to turbulent, great job. Good background choice, and I like how you chose the light to be on the top right corner. Try to increase the focus, or maybe reduce the contrast.

This composition highlights a subtle flow of smoke that lends a sense of moodiness due to its simplicity. I liked that you left out all distracting elements and made the image gray-scale in order to show a flow as it is. The phenomena is clearly illustrated thanks to said simplicity.

The black and white theme helps to bring out the smoke from the background. The background has light on it, which sort of takes away from the smoke itself. Overall, it’s a good photo.

This flow is beautifully laminar with a very cool concentration in the middle, which stands out. Cropping the image might be nice to focus more one the flow. There is a lot of black, and the smoke is a bit dim to stand out.

This is a very effective image showing where the flow of the smoke breaks, which is an interesting phenomena. I like the zoom of the image, but I think it also would have been interesting to zoom more on the part where it breaks.

I like how elegant this flow is. The simple contrast of the smoke and black background is very satisfying. I like the change from laminar to turbulent.
In the future, I think capturing slightly above of where the image was taken would be cool to see. I wish the picture was a little higher to see that part.

The flow of the smoke looks good with the dark background. My eyes naturally follow the smoke from the bottom of the picture all the way to the top. The grayscale edit you made to the picture made this picture look better. The picture does look a little granulated or out of focus. Maybe some editing in photoshop could fix this?

The contrast between the smoke and the background does a great job of bringing attention to the subject. Did you consider cropping the image so that the smoke fills more of the space.

Nice picture illustrating the physics behind a smoke plume! The background is a little grainy, so I would maybe try a complete black background and then increase the contrast to make the plume stand out.

The focus of this photo is really nice. Did you crop the photo at the top? It feels as if the main movement of the smoke is cut off too abruptly at the top. What ISO was used for this photo? Because the photo is dark, a high ISO was probably used but, maybe by lowering the ISO the smoke could be a bit softer. Overall, great capturing of the flow of the smoke.

The smoke becomes turbulent as it rises among a certain point from the incense. It’s interesting as the image shows a lot of texture and feels very dramatic. Its simplicity aids on focusing in on the flow.

This image is very dark and it’s hard to tell what is going on. I think the focus could use a little more work as well as the image is very grainy. From a flow visualization point of view, it’s easy to see the flow of the smoke plume from the incense stick used.

Art: you’ve captured the aesthetic of smoke from smoldering incense
Flow: you could have included more smoke in the image so all of the details are more visible
Technique: I like the grayscale imaging choice, the subject could be more in focus

This image is very beautiful, and the smoke is framed well. My only point would be that there is a curl of smoke in the top left corner which I personally would have either shown more of or cut out. It is very easy to see the smoke flow. Photographically I think the image is great. Overall great job.

  • The black background with the smoke is very pleasing. The flow looks great, there were obviously no disturbances and it looks very natural. The focus is nice, perhaps it could use some cropping to focus the image a little more on the flow without so much dark space

I like the simplicity of this image, however, it may be hard to find out what is causing the smoke. Was the iso really high dude to not being able to see the smoke? Maybe a light would allow you to lower it.
