Cloud // Brent Eckles

Cloud // Brent Eckles

This picture was taken near my home on a sunny day with good weather. The sun was directly behind the cloud giving it a wide range of colors. The atmosphere was stable and the pictured cloud was cumulus.

The Skew-T chart for Denver for the day in question is below.

Cool background. Really makes the cloud pop with great colors.

I like how you focussed your camera on the main light source in the photo. I feel like it made the image was shot in the dark rather than the day (the sun actually looked like the moon illuminating the cloud.

The little rainbows all around the cloud look very interesting and I like the black sky behind it. I also like how visible the details around the cloud are.

This image is quite unique owing to its mysterious color. And I love the iridescence in the image.

I like the choice of blacking out the background! The iridescence is really quite psychedelic. Sweet photo!

  • I really like the way the dark edges contrast the white and the colors from a cloud. The refraction and resulting colors are mesmerizing, I also like the small chunk of blue sky that pokes through at the bottom right of the cloud.

I love seeing these rainbow effects on clouds when the sun is behind them, I’m impressed that you were able to capture it with a camera. I feel like it’s so fleeting. I also really appreciate the full black background, it makes it ambiguous whether this was taken in the day or night.

Very cool to see the sky blacked out, really interesting perspective. Love some good iridescence.

Nice shot! I like the irridecence of this image. THe colors look really nice and I like how the rest of the sky is black.

This image really stands out from the rest. Perhaps you could try some cropping to create more interesting compositions.

Really curious how the image came out in this fashion. I like how you rolled with the abstract image and used post-processing to black out the background.

This is really cool, definitely the most abstract photo yet! The photo is really cool and frames the cloud so well. It also really exemplifies the colors you got from the ‘irredescence’. Awesome!

Super interesting image – did you get the pure black background in post processing or was that the raw image? Really beautiful!

  • Wow the rainbow effect on this image is incredible. I love that you decided to embrace the black background and bright white clouds in comparison to all of the other images.
