IV1 – Ryan Wells – Get Wet Fall 2022

This image was taken by Ryan Wells depicting water exiting a contoured nozzle at low pressure. It was taken using a hose with contoured nozzle used for a “Mist.” The effect of what looks like a bubble occurred when the hose was set to low pressure/low output. The camera used was a Canon EOS Rebel T1i with a 18-55mm lens.

The phenomena you captured is really cool! Do you think you could calculate the shape or find out why it looks like that?

I like how you were able to get the main part of the “bubble” in focus. The framing, including the tip of the nozzle and the shift to droplets was also a really neat choice

Really like this photo and the phenomena being shown. My questions for you are how did you keep the hose and camera still? Did you find a good solution? Can you think of anything you can do better?

I like the smoothness and the reflection on the curved part of the water. I think this is a very common but interesting phenomena you have gotten a picture of. As for your question about camera settings, I would maybe try a higher frame rate to get a nice still of the drops of water. I also really like the cropping of this photo and how its short and wide.

I think this is a cool picture of a phenomenon that I have seen before but haven’t given much thought too, and this image has been somewhat thought provoking for me in terms of whats happening here. My permissioned opinion is that you should try taking the same image with a black background, as well as crop the unused background out of the bottom part of the picture.

You did a really good job on the focus of this image, you did a great job keeping the water in focus and the background is blurred, especially because it is transparent and transparent objects can be really difficult to capture. Great job!

Did you try experimenting with any of the other settings on the nozzle? Did they give any similar results?

I like the shape of the bubble that you captured. I think it has a nice composition. I was surprised when you said that it was a hose, I thought it was a spray coming out of an industrial process.
