This photo was taken facing South West on a rooftop in Denver, Colorado. It was taken at 5:11 pm on Friday, September 5th. The Skew-T diagram indicates that the atmosphere was mostly stable and slightly conditionally unstable near the mid-levels. The diagram also suggests cloud formation around the 500-600 mb level. The data suggests a stratocumulus or altostratus-type clouds with a stable lower atmosphere, indicating these clouds were not associated with thunderstorms, which was the case on this sunny afternoon.

Nice picture with the sun in the middle Duncan! Do you think that there are multiple layers of clouds, or just a single layer? Also, what elevation do you think these clouds are at? Are they near the rightwards bend on the temperature line? Are they higher up around 8000 meters?

I really appreciate the clarity of the clouds in this image. I’m not sure if you used a camera or a phone but the individual clouds are really sharp. I also like the rays of sun peeking through.
