Altostratus with Orthographic Effects

Altostratus with Orthographic Effects

Altostratus clouds in stable atmosphere on October 19, 2025 at 12:30PM. These clouds presumably have orthographic effects, as there was westerly winds blowing over the mountain that day. This video is on 128x speed, the first clip originally being 20 mins long and the second clip being 15 mins long.

This is an amazing time lapse video! Especially the second angle where you can see the clouds start to develop as they come off the mountains. Also impressive how long you recorded for!

I like how you captured the sun behind the altostratus clouds. The clouds helped to disperse the sunlight and prevent your video from being over-exposed, improving the color of the ground and nearby mountains.

I love the choice of a timelapse, it makes it really easy to see how the cloud develops and dissipates but stays in the same location, it seems like some standing orographic clouds.
