This Schlieren photograph of Boom Supersonic’s XB-1 demonstrator jet breaking the sound barrier is a powerful example of flow visualization. It captures shock waves generated at supersonic speed, making invisible changes in air density visible using light refraction. Taken in collaboration with NASA, the image not only illustrates key aerodynamic concepts like compressible flow and shock formation, but also demonstrates real-world engineering precision. It supports the concept of supersonic flight without an audible sonic boom, making it both a visually striking and scientifically valuable teaching tool.

I think aviation is a great way to capture flow visualization in images. This photo is a great example of how cool aviation images can be at showcasing different flows.
