This was taken September 2nd at 19:25 GMT at Sheridan and 36th station facing the mountains, they are unstable at lower altitudes and become stable as it goes higher. (at least if I’m reading it right) I’d assume it was a standard cumulus. But the shape and lighting were rather appealing.

The “Normal Field Instability” causes spikes in ferrofluid.
