The video demonstrates fluid flow over a hill. The test shows how the fluid hits the hill which creates a high pressure flow, this flows more quickly over the hill. The pressure drops after the hill, and you can see that some distance after the hill that the flow becomes more turbulent and unpredictable. This is because the flow is free to move due to the pressure drop after the hill. You can see small swirls or ‘eddys’ after the hill where the flow swirls out of its linear path.

While this is a very scientific experiment conducted by NASA, the flow itself is beautiful and captures the art side of flow visualization as well. The colors are vibrant which are aesthetically pleasing, this makes it easier to observe flow patterns while also being beautiful. I think this video shows that nature and science can be both beautiful and useful, thus demonstrating the importance of art in practical engineering applications.

    Third Place-
The video does a great job of displaying fluid flow. The streams turn turbulent downwind of the hill, and you can see the eddies form along the backside. The colors make it very easy to distinguish the flow from the surroundings.

First Prize: This demonstration is of a flow over a hill demonstrates a simple concept in a very aesthetically pleasing way. It is mesmerizing and hard to look away from.
