I think it looks like you guys did a really great job setting up a black and non-distracting background like you mentioned was part of your goal. I think that you definitely dealt with the bottom of the image well. The evenly spaced bubbles as the jet breaks up might be the Rayleigh-Plateau instability.
I really appreciate the editing you did to remove some of the dirt on the glass, and I love the blur you did on the bottom! You made a great image!
I think going with the gold color was a great choice overall.

I think this would be even more effective if the colors were more of a vibrant gold
