Flow Visualization 4 % Scale F-16XL Scamp

This image taken in Washington D.C. by the Nasa Langley Research Center shows an F-16 being tested for air flow. The photograph shows a basic flow visualization test using smoke and a laser light sheet to illuminate the smoke. The tests will be used to investigate the basic flow field on the F-16XL before actual flight tests are made. This is an incredible example of using flow vis and science together because this model is being made prior to testing the aircraft, meaning the results from this model will determine whether or not the aircraft will be successful.

This is my third place vote for best of web. Seeing how fluid visualization is used in mechanical design is impressive.
