This image shows the fluid motion caused by adding soap to milk. The flow is captured by putting food coloring into the milk before the soap is added. The soap interferes with the surface tension of the milk and causes a flow away from the point that the soap is added. The Reynolds number of the flow is low enough that the flow remains laminar and is why the long continuous streaks and smooth vortices form in the flow.

The black outline is a really neat feature that you captured here. The combination of milk and soap isn’t something that I would have thought of, nice creative choice!

I like that you filled the image mostly with just the subject. It’s a creative idea to synthesize a certain type of flow and generate something beautiful. Maybe you could experiment with different focus positions on the surface of the liquid to draw the eye into the image.

The top left side has a very 3D-looking effect that really draws my eye in.

  • I like how the background is nondiscriptive- you cannot tell what vessel the liquid is held in and the focus is on the liquid.

I really like sort of solid blue food coloring outline. It adds a nice framing effect to the picture.

I love the dark ring that formed around the area where the food coloring dispersed out from. This creates a focus on the flow going on within the framing ring.

I like the lines of color that form the shape of the image. I also like where you can see individual colors breaking through other colors.

I like that you can see the trails of the food coloring as it moved away from the middle! Cool effect!

I had never heard of the soap and food coloring reaction before, so this is very cool!

I enjoy the black outline encapsulating the other food coloring. It creates an intriguing, unique shape.
