This image was shot while roasting coffee in a fluid-bed roaster. Hot air is being pushed through the beans at a high velocity from below, carrying only some of them up near the top of the roasting chamber. It was challenging to shoot, as the beans were moving very quickly, and I wanted to give the impression that they were floating. I found it interesting how only some of the beans were being carried up, while the others rest on the bottom of the roaster, even though they were all subjected to the same hot air.

This is a very different photo than what I expected to be on here. At first, it looks like the coffee beans are being poured into the cup, but it was very interesting to learn that they were actually being pushed up by airflow from the bottom.

I like the color grading choices you made. The contrast of the beans to the white background really make the image pop.

I like how you decided to capture this phenomenon and think it has a appealing color scheme.

The shutter speed makes for a very clear image given the speed I assume the beans must be travelling. The overall composition I feel looks quite professional. Nicely done David!

I like the interesting approach of modeling a fluid using an unconventional medium to display the fluid properties. Great shot!

David, sticking with the coffee theme for your photography, thats awesome.
Without reading the description I would have assumed the coffee beans are being dropped into the roaster. I think you did a spectacular job selecting your shutter speed and the image turned out excellent.
