Nicole Nageli – Clouds First

This image was taken facing North after a rainstorm on August 28th at 7:13pm from outside the ITLL entrance on Regent Dr. The cloud types seem to be:

  • cumulonimbus – low level cloud, found during thunderstorms, dark cloud with vertical growth
  • nimbostratus – middle level cloud, dark smooth cloud creates rain

This would be an unstable atmosphere because the clouds, like cumulonimbus, stretch vertically because the unstable mass is rising.
For the editing of this image, I used Adobe Photoshop.

  • the content-aware fill tool was used to remove the trees and streetlights to keep the photo undistracted
  • the S curve was created in the Curve tool to bring out the bright and dark areas of the image
  • the blue and green midtones were increased to create a cooler tone
  • the vibrance was also increased

    Hey there Nicole!
Amazing Edits you did! I like the idea of experimenting with generative fill! Technology really is advancing fast. Great work! I am glad you were able to capture the rainbow.

I love the use of the content fill from Photoshop. I don’t think anyone would be able to tell that you used it, which is awesome.

Beautiful images – I love the layering and depth created in all the blue shades. Not to mention the stunningly bright rainbow!

I like the edits on the picture and the presence of the rainbow. The rainbow adds a spark of color to the image and also highlights the clouds better.

    Hello Nicole,
I really like how you edited the clouds to have a dark blue color rather than the gray color that was in the original image. I also like that you were able to capture a rainbow in the clouds. I think the contrast of the dark blue and the light rainbow is really nice.
