My question in critique was: which direction are the convection currents going: inside out or outside inwards?

The heated mica powder and the colors chosen (was this done in post processing?) invoked images of the surface of the sun for me. They seem to resemble the granules and sunspots that form on our star due to a similar convection process.

I really like the brilliance that the mica powder adds to the image, the shine really draws the eye to the high concentration regions.
