This video shows water flowing over a weir in an open channel, and the subsequent behavior of the flow as it falls over the weir. We can see the momentum effects of the water in how it creates an air pocket, as well as the vortices formed near the base of the weir, emphasized by the dye being added.

    Creative video Seth! From a fluid mechanics perspective, I wonder what determines the size of the air gap in the flow directly after the weir. Would the Froude number be useful? (inertial vs gravitational forces)
