Unstable Altocumulus Clouds – Beck Hermann

This image was taken on September 29, 2025 at 6:45PM at Chataqua Park in Boulder, looking west over the Flatiron mountain range. The cloud type is autocumulus and unstable because CAPE > 0. Based on celiometer data, the clouds were ~2km above ground level.

    I really like the post-editing that you did here! I think by highlighting the orange colors you added a lot of mood to the image, especially with the mountain silhouette.

    Despite photographing the same cloud formation, your composition is wholly unique! It makes great use of the sunset lighting to highlight the intricate textures underneath the cloud. Great work!

    Cool sunset Beck! I think your choice of cropping was a good one, though did you rotate the image at all? Also, how do you think that the Ceilometer matches up with the Skew-T plot? The Ceilometer says that there were clouds around 2-3 km above the surface, but I wouldn’t have immediately guessed that after looking at the Skew-T.

    I really like the black mountain silhouette. I think it adds an element of contrast to the orange clouds.
