The photo highlights the sun releasing flares in November of 2025, taken at NASA’s Space Dynamics Observatory. The image shows Angstrom 131 light, a subset of extreme ultraviolet light. The flares went on to cause a large geomagnetic storm on earth causing Aurora all over the planet, even noticeable in Florida. Solar Flares happen when magnetic fields on the sun’s surface get twisted and distorted until they snap apart. When they reconnect, large amounts of light and radiation are released. X-class flares are the strongest class of solar flares and are known to trigger radio blackouts on Earth.
