“This image was captured by researchers at NASA’s Armstrong Flight Research Center using an improved version of ground based Schlieren photography which makes changes in air density visible. The simplicity of the subject and sharp contrast between the red background and pitch black silhouette of the jet is most appealing to me. Also the lines representing the air density give the image great organization.”
