This cymatics effect tries to make the vodka inside the dish appear to be almost standstill. It is done by playing a speaker driver at a frequency that is twice the capture rate of the camera. This effect takes advantage of the limitations of a 30 fps camera by lining up the waves inside of the vodka with the applied frequency to make it appear that the vodka is barely moving, and applies an interesting pattern.

Video was taken in collaboration with Zack Herzer.

Music is “Cipher” by Kevin McLeod, originally uploaded on incompetech.com. The website is archaic so you’ll have to search up “Cipher” to find the song.

Love this, had to rewatch the wave of ripples in that first second, you can kinda see the way the speaker moves the water with bass and treble.

Great visualization of cymatics! It was cool observing the how the nodes wavered around the dish. Great job including different frequencies as well for the experiment.

Love this experiment. The circular dish works well with the circular speaker.

This is super creative! Good thinking with choosing the audio frequency and camera frame rate to make an aliasing effect and see the standing wave.

I really appreciate the reflections created at the top of each little bubble, the abstract shapes look like alien characters or something.

I really like the fluid choice. I like how it is transparent so that you can see the speaker vibrating at each frequency.
