Clouds First – Patrick Watson

For the Clouds First project I decided to use a photo that I took while hiking the 1st/2nd Flat Irons! This is my favorite hike because the views of the clouds are unbeatable towards the west (Rockies) and when the day is perfect you can see clouds all the way out to Denver (South). The most dominant cloud in the photo appears to be Cumulus. This photo was taken looking south towards Denver, CO. I love this photo because it has several different cloud types and the second Flatiron helps to give the clouds scale and depth. Personally, I feel that having a foreground is incredibly important for taking photos of clouds because it gives the unknowing viewer a sense of scale and perception.

    They there Patrick!
Great job! A view like this is always worth the hike! It is impressive how far camera technology has come to where you can take an image of this quality on a cell phone! Great job!

I really like the perspective you gave by showing the clouds from the angle seen from the flatirons.

The number of clouds you can see in this photo is awesome. It feels like you could use it as a real-life teaching guide where people can identify lots of different clouds based on their appearance.

Neat photo! Love the view. I do think however cropping a bit of the foreground might draw the eye more towards the cloud formation. The depth of this photo is excellent, but personally I feel the large flatirons are slightly distracting to the cloud formation at large.

I really liked the overall composition of the image, with crisp leaves to the highlights and shadows of the clouds, and the horizon set exactly at the center of the image.

I love all the colors in this image! I agree with Izzy, I think that the contrast between each color adds a lot of dimension.

I love the green contrast with the blue sky and white clouds, brings dimension to the photo quite nicely.

I like that you included the foreground (it is beautiful foliage). I also like the variety of clouds in this image. I think this image might benefit from removing a bit of the foreground to reemphasize the sky (think rule of thirds).
