I chose this image because it’s a natural phenomena that appears as a striking visual but also shows a marked boundary in the flow as the river carries different colored sediments through each of providing a visualization of the waters movement within the river.

First Prize
I really like the overall palette in this picture, but what drew me to it most was the composition, with the colors gradating from being overexposed lights, to nearing black in some areas. That, I think, gives a good sense of depth. I also think the detail of the waves within the water cresting perpendicular(-ish) to the flow adds a nice texture.
First place – I like this piece a lot, the flow is very intriguing to look at and shows a kind of fade effect between the colors which I enjoy.
First Place – I absolutely love natural phenomena like this, and especially blue and icy, wintry images. This image has great framing and color balance. Would love this image in my room.
Second Prize—I love how this image has great range in colors while also keeping the vibrance of each color. I love how the flow of water is captivated well with a slow shutter speed. I would hang this up. Great use of framing to depict a top-bottom flow even though this may not be vertical.
First place – I want this printed on my wall. The colors are beautiful and the flow patterns are a crazy snapshot in time.
Second Prize – It’s really cool that you’re able to see the flow even after it’s stopped. The difference in color composition between the land and fluid also really pops to better contrast the two and exemplify the flow phenomenon.
Vote 3 – Besides the fact that this is such a cool angle of a natural phenomenon, the author did a fantastic job setting the exposure and contrast of this pic to get such a great image. I also like how this image shows flow over a long time interval, whereas most of the flows we see in this course are over short periods of time.
Second prize! This image is beautiful, and it is incredible to think that these patterns occur naturally. The flow of the rivers is very easy to visualize, especially through the different colors.
Third prize – Such a beautiful image with striking contrast. I love that it is naturally occurring phenomena with such a unique pattern and distinct colors. Really emphasizes the saying art imitates life.

This is a great image that shows the movement of water on a large scale. The colors blend to create beautiful color gradients with the intertwining flows. Scientifically its cool to see where the water flows and the mixing occurring within the flow.
First Prize: It’s cool how the sedement reveals different stream lines and stream tubes in the flow and you can see how the flow changes as the structures change from laminar to turbulent in different regions.

This image was really visually striking. I almost didn’t know what I was looking at until I read the description. The braided formation occurring is really mesmerizing and an amazing display of flow.

I think this image is really beautiful and the color gradient is stunning. It’s interesting that the rivers merge and separate over and over again which is highlighted by the color gradient.
Second Prize – This is a beautiful image, I love how the colors have an ombre effect. From a scientific perspective, it’s a great way to see turbidity and how different sediments move through the river.
