THE SCIENCE: I was used to flow separation like this resulting in turbulent flow afterward. However, the alternating vortices were unexpected and unfamiliar to me.

THE ART: The high contrast lighting of this image made it stand out. When paired with the dissipating transparency, it creates a vivid sense of stark minimalism that complements the eerie swirls.
