Spring 2018 Get Wet- JJ Monahan

This is a video of a submerged shot glass filled with creamer being tipped into warm coffee.  The cooler, more viscous creamer mixes into the coffee due to the motion of the shot glass being tipped over, creating spirals of creamer in the coffee.

Creamer and coffee mixing: The mix looks swirly and tasty. The focus was a bit off. Maybe set the camera in one un-moving location and zoom in on just the action? Mesmerizing!

  • Great idea, I really like the flow. I think it is one of the more interesting flows, it has a lot of chaos in it and you can see that well. A higher resolution image of this would be really interesting!

The colors in this seem nice. I wish that the focus would have been on the cloudy flow. to better show what we were looking at. Exposure seems nice, maybe a little bit brighter would have helped showcase more of the flow.

The focus could use a little work, also the background isn’t as necessary! But the colors and flow look good!

The concept and flow in this picture are really cool. Good lighting and cropping to make the flow the main focus in this image. You could blur the image edges to make the background less distracting. Overall, awesome example of flow visualization.

This is a cool idea. I’m wondering how the temperature affects the rate at which the two mix. I think the focus could be improved.

Hard to distinguish what is occurring in the image. An increased focus and a larger subject would be better.

art: Unfocused and difficult to see what’s happening, but beautiful colors. I don’t know about the brown around it. Maybe a higher resolution file so it can be larger?
Flow: One of my favorite every-day flows! it could be neat as a video!
technique: maybe set up an automatic timed shutter so you can control things a bit better, and do a dummy glass so you can focus on the proper depth of field.

  • Great demonstration of flow. The picture is a little out of focus. You might need to set up with a little more space.

Great experiment for observing mixtures. Changing the focus might improve clarity of the separate fluids.

  • Very beautiful flow, resolution and exposure is good. Focus is not very good for this picture. Flow is understandable.

The picture looks cool and the color mixture is cool. The flow looks cool but the focus is off and maybe crop out what seems like a weird brown background outside of the actual image.

The flow physics are very visible and the image itself is very clear on whats happening. There is a cool effect with the swirl and it is pleasing to look at.

This is a really cool image! I like how you can barely see the shot glass so it doesn’t distract from the flow. I suggest better focus as well as a black background.

Kinda fuzzy looking, might be out of focus or have too long a shutter speed. Shows good fluid flow, I like the concept.
