Clouds near the bottom of the frame are cumulus, higher clouds could be nimbostratus and some stratocumulus. Small Kelvin-Helmholtz instability near the top. Picture was taken just before light rain in a mostly stable atmosphere.

    Hi Jake,
    This is a really cool picture, I love how the sun is reflecting off the clouds in the background but it’s already set behind the mountains for the clouds in the foreground. You did really well on the color theory with this image.

    I think we photographed very similar cloud formations! I would probably assume that your atmosphere instability is similar to mine where the Skew-T diagram didn’t accurately portray what was captured in the image. Very cool picture, I love the colors that you brought out!
